Terms of service

Tagst is currently provided by an independent developer and is not operated by a registered company. At this time, there is no commercial activity and the current subscription is provided free of charge. By using the service, you agree to these Terms of Service.

Use of the service

Tagst is a notes and bookmarks service focused on local-first storage, sync, and privacy. You may use the service only in compliance with applicable laws and these terms.

A subscription is used to enable synchronization and server-side storage of encrypted data. At this time, the subscription is free of charge.

Accounts and access

You may use Tagst locally without creating a server account, or you may use a server account with passkey-based authentication. You are responsible for keeping access to your device, passkey, and local encryption key.

If you lose access to your passkey or local encryption key, your data may become permanently inaccessible. The service may not be able to recover access for you.

Account deletion

You may delete your online account from within the service. Deleting the online account permanently removes server-side account access, active sessions, and synced data stored for that account. Local data stored on your device may remain available unless you remove it separately.

Server-side data associated with an expired subscription is not guaranteed to remain available for longer than two weeks after the subscription expires.

You may also remove locally stored account data from the current device by using the Exit action in the app.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the service for illegal or abusive activities;
• attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or overload the service;
• attempt to access data or accounts that do not belong to you.

Data and security

Your data is encrypted on your device before being sent to the server. The service is designed so that the server does not have access to your local encryption keys and cannot read your stored content in plain text.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the service will always be available, secure, or error-free.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service provider is not liable for loss of data, loss of access, service interruptions, or any indirect or consequential damages arising from the use of Tagst.

Changes

These Terms of Service may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the updated terms.
